In the U.S. Army, the word the six, is a term used to refer to the senior ranking commander in charge, typically the rank of 06 or Colonel, who oversees a unit of soldiers and it’s installation that are all bound together by the Army’s Common Mission….you know…they’re the boss, the head honcho, the big cheese, the one ultimately responsible if shit goes sideways…you get the picture… AND if they are a really good six, they are the one person, that for better or worse, always has your back…even when it may not seem like they do!
Hello and welcome to my blog, it’s so nice to meet you!!! Please allow me to formally introduce mySelf, my name is Aubrey Dietrich, and I am the Dietrich 6. The unit I am responsible for, as it so happens, is also the Dietrich 6. The six soldiers under my advisement are; first and always foremost, mySelf, a highly intuitive, super sensitive, yoga lovin’ , omsteading, omschooling, wife, mamma, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, friend, and Self proclaimed creative badass, my second in command, but number one in my heart, my battle buddy, and on most days the yin to my yang, Kyle, a fellow service member with an area of specialty in truth and justice (he’s an attorney for both the US Army Reserves and a local civilian law office), and lastly, to round out the 6, the four beautiful Hearts & Souls that the Universe deemed me fit to bring into this world and care for, in order of rank, Addie, Quinn, Charlie, and Evie..their areas of specialties are yet to be fully determined…well by me anyway. My current duty station, Heart & Soul Farm, HSF for short, or what I also like to call our family’s OM-stead, is a small slice of heaven in a midwest town with a population of around 250 people and not one single stoplight. On this installation I also oversee the care and upkeep of Huck the Dog, Magic the cat…well kind of, he pretty much does what he wants when he wants and I’m fairly confident that he is the most enlightened soldier in our unit…16 hens (that all have names as well), my daughters new puppy, a doxidor named Rosie, a 120 year old farmhouse with lots of quirks, an RV we affectionately call Bertha, our truck Big Blue, a garden, 3 acres of land, a yoga studio, a greenhouse turned bathhouse, and the list goes on and on and on, and only seems to get bigger with the more things we dream up!
In this blog I will share with you the good, the bad, the ugly and all the in-betweens of me and my family’s heart, soul, and farm journey. I will also share many insights, ramblings, recipes and musings from the perspective of a stay at home mother, military spouse, wife, OM-steader, OM-school facilitator, and all around yoga facilitator. Full disclosure, my language can get a bit colorful at times! I really love the placement of a good curse word, especially for dramatic or comedic effect or to lighten the mood on a heavy topic! But, as someone who is committed to living a life of compassionate connection and growth, please know that none of the words that I use to express mySelf are ever meant to hurt or offend you in any way! I do hope however, that by sharing my heart, soul, and farm, it will serve as an inspiration and it will empower you to find/remember your yoga and become the six of your own life. So grab a cup of tea, or whatever beverage or snack you fancy, or none at all, no pressure here.. ever…and come read and join along with me as I share a little peace of my heart, soul, and farm.
Namaste Sweet Friend,
The Dietrich 6
